Our FarmStory
So, just what makes us so amazing?
The Amazing Flower Farm is part of a family farm known locally since 1989 as Liberty Farm. Your hard-working farmers are Ara Lynn and Paul Bush.
For one thing, the flowers and plants that we grow! Our Proven Winners and Proven Selections are always amazing, of course. We also choose other brands and varieties with outstanding beauty and performance. And we grow Thompson & Morgan selections that are a bit off-beat, European, and very beautiful and/or well-scented.
Next, right here on the farm we produce well-aged chicken manure that will do amazing things for your garden. (Available by the bag.)
In season, we also have a limited selection of amazing vegetable plants. First, these are the plants we grow for our own garden, which have had to pass years of taste selection. Our mantra is, if it doesn't taste great, it's not worth growing! We usually have extra heirloom tomato varieties and paste tomato plants.
Second, we have a limited selection of exotic southeast asian vegetables, including many varieties of hot peppers and unusual eggplants, amaranth, etc.
Although we dropped our organic certification when we quit market gardening (selling vegetables) in the mid 1990s, we still firmly believe in growing as naturally and healthily as possible. We live and work here, and we don't like exposing ourselves to lots of chemicals. We use many growing techniques that reduce or eliminate the need for dangerous "cides"—herbicides, fungicides, pesticides. We try to use biological controls including beneficial insects, among other methods, as much as possible.
In keeping with our respect for the environment, when it is warm enough (above freezing), we use 100% biodiesel in our tractors. The biodiesel is made entirely from soybeans. It is still more expensive than petroleum diesel but it is SO much better for our environment and our own health! In case you didn't realize it, biodiesel is available locally from Rymes.
When you visit our farm we are sure you will discover more that is amazing! But we're not going to tell you everything—you'll have to come and see for yourself.
